IT Services Austin Creates Websites to Meet Your Needs

Internet Websites

These are the public sites that businesses use to show and grow. They can be used to advertise products and services. They can highlight special services, features or product sales. Basically a website is a vehicle for building a public image of a business. Your website should tell your business story. It should give prospective or current customers a good feel for how you do business. It should portray your philosophy of business. It should show that you plan on staying around for a long time.

Websites can be clear and clean, cluttered and confusing or somewhere in between. Sites can be complex with lots of content, or simple with a clear message. They can be colorful, even flashy. Or a site can be plain with no extras, just the message they are intended to convey. There's no guaranteed best or worst way. There are good and bad practices though.

Your site should represent your business. The image it carries should be the message you want conveyed. A law firm should not have a web site that is too flashy. It can have a lot of content, but it should be clean and clear. A nite club should not have a plain black and white site with minimal links and content. Your site should reflect your business. It should be designed so that your customers can find what they are looking for. Clicks should be minimized. If a potential customer has to click 10 times to get a simple piece of information, they aren't going to come back. Common choices should be the easiest to find. It is a good practice to navigate sites of businesses like yours or competitors of yours. Consider adding features they do well. It is just as important to remember that a website should not be built and forgotten about. As prices and products or services offered change, so should your website.

There are two main "types" of websites. The first, and original type was static. Pages are put together one time, and look the same for everyone. The other type is dynamic. Here pages are created dynamically, or on the fly. A dynamic site allows for customizing pages. Different users see different items, the way Google and Yahoo! change once you've logged on. Dynamic sites require more knowledge of the individual visitor. Customers have to identify themselves, usually by creating an account or profile. The account or profile is saved in files called cookies. Cookies contain the information the website uses to customize the view for each user.

Static sites are simpler and easier to create, therefore they cost less to develop. Dynamic sites take more planning, more development and more time. They usually cost more. A mix of the two allows for keeping the time to create the site and the cost managed, while adding some of the features of a customized view. This is usually a good place to start. Extra features, especially dynamics can be added or phased in over time. The choice depends on your needs, the time available and your budget. Internal Websites

These are the private sites that businesses use for posting work policies, employee handbooks, work guidelines, calendars, suggestion pages, help request forms to name a few. Internal sites are good when there are multiple locations, or staff on multiple floors or just to have documentation posted for legal purposes. Internal sites can make requesting vacations or scheduling conference rooms easier. An internal is usually a great tool for communication amongst staff.

The same general guidelines used for Internet sites applies here. One of the most important considerations for any website, regardless of its audience, is usability. Does the site serve the needs of its intended users? Let us help you decide how use websites for the best effect ...
